As-Salaamu 'alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.
The Grand Islamic Center of St. Louis (aka - Grand Masjid) is pleased to announce that we have purchased a building that is the future home of the the Masjid and the much needed full time Madrasatu Ibn Abbaas Islamic School, K-8.
The building is currently 2 separate apartment buildings next to each other. One will serve as the Masjid and the other will serve as the school. They will be joined by a hallway and a dawah center which will create a courtyard in the middle that will serve as a nice place to enjoy the weather between prayers and for the children to play safely. The building is around 20,000 sq feet in total and there should be at least 60+ parking spots, with additional parking very close.
Below you will see the rough renderings of the architect so we can have an idea of what the building will look like. We plan to present our concept to the Mashaayikh and redesign according to their advice then have the architect apply local building codes and begin work.
This will take time and money. The owner of the adjoining empty lot has agreed to sell us the land and we are in negotiations with him to purchase the additional parking.
We cannot estimate the time or cost until we complete the design. However after purchasing the building we are starting over in our fundraising.
We have a pledge from 2 Brothers to match everything we raise by next Jumuah, March 8, up to $17,000. This $34,000 if matched will be a great start towards the parking lot, design and the necessary demo.
There is little need to mention the rewards for building a Masjid for Allaah as I am sure all of you are aware. But i will just mention one or two.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever builds a masjid for Allaah, Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]
And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Among what continues to accrue for a believer of his good works after death are the following: knowledge that he learned and then imparted
to others, a pious child whom he left behind, a copy of the Qur’ân that he bequeathed, a mosque that he built, a guest house he built for travelers, a river that he made to flow, and charity he spends from his wealth when he is in good health – all of this continues to avail him after his death.” [Sunan Ibn Majah and Sunan al-Bayhaqî – and graded as good (hasan) by al-Albânî]
